Keeping in Touch - March

Hi there!

Membership renewal Our membership runs out at the end of February. Have you renewed??? If you need a renewal form, please contact Jackie

Single Boots AGM is on April 15th at Welland village hall. Cliff will be leading a walk in the Malverns area which will be followed by tea and cakes at the hall before our Annual General Meeting. Do put this in your diaries, it’s a really good opportunity to review how the group is going, and have a social get together at the same time.

Barbara would like to relinquish her role as May weekend coordinator. Is this something you could take on?

The role consists of:

  • Booking and contact for May weekend accommodation & pub meal

  • Taking bookings, payments and banking cheques

  • Sending information, booking form etc out to members

  • (Hunting for properties is a whole committee endeavour, as is earmarking & reccying walks.)

New committee members are always welcome, and if you’d like to support the group in this way, do talk to a present member of the committee!

A list of committee members is located at the end of each programme and on the members’ section (admin & governance) of our website.

Forthcoming weekends away are as follows. Do get in touch with the relevant leaders if you fancy coming along and would like to know more details.

Outdoor first aid course 9 of our members took part in the outdoor first aid course run by Dave Mayo of Chase Training Solutions. We had a very informative time with plenty of practical activities. A couple of useful bits of advice to pass on:

First Aid Kits We are all responsible for taking a first aid kit out on our walks. It is recommended that they include:

Assorted plasters; 2 medium sterile dressings; 2 large sterile dressings; triangular bandages; protective gloves; sterile eye pads; aspirin; PLUS any additional items for your own use such as: antiseptic wipes; sticking tape; crepe bandage; pain killers; scissors; tweezers; safety pins; tick remover; sun block.

Emergency SMS If you cannot make voice calls, you can contact the 999 emergency services by SMS text from your mobile phone. In areas with marginal phone reception, SMS messages can often get through where a voice call can’t. You need to register your phone for this service so you will be set up for the (hopefully unlikely) event that you need to make that call. Text “register” to 999. You will get a reply, then follow the instructions you are sent.

Walking dates to fill: May 29th; June 3rd; June 17th; June 24th Check out the website diary to see where other members’ walks are located!

Our campaign to increase Single Boots membership seems to be working. Our new website and flyers have attracted a good number of temporary members. We do need to encourage all those attending their complimentary walks to join up! We have also had some business cards printed for our members to be able to hand out to anyone they may meet who is interested in our group. These can be collected from a member of the committee on a Sunday walk. We are looking into advertising in the national walking magazines too.

See you out on a walk soon!
