Christmas Walk and Social 2018 Here’s a date for your diaries! Our Christmas walk will be held on 16th December. For those newer members amongst us who haven’t experienced this event before, this is the order of the day: we have a slightly shorter walk (fancy dress is encouraged!) and come back to a simple bring and share meal at a village hall with time to socialise afterwards. We’ll be walking in the vicinity of Bredon Hill, led by Shirley, and we have booked Little Comberton village hall for our social afterwards. Catering will be organised by Lin and Garth who will be in touch with everyone nearer the time to see what you are comfortable bringing along as a contribution to the meal.
Please note this event is for fully paid up members only.
May Weekend 2019 Hopefully all our members have received, by email, information and a booking form for our annual weekend away, this year based in the Derbyshire Peak District. These are always very sociable weekends with a choice of two walks on the Saturday, and walking together on the Sunday and Monday. The house looks very comfortable and is well placed for some excellent walking. Make sure you get your booking form in soon! This weekend is for full members only and comes as a package.
If you didn’t receive the booking form or have any queries, please contact Val firstname.lastname@example.org
Help Needed! Every so often members who have been supporting the group’s administration need to step down for various reasons.
Rose, who has been manning our database and looking after new members, has decided to move on. We’re enormously grateful for everything she’s done over quite a number of years. So, we are looking for a new member to take this role on. It does require someone who looks at their emails regularly and, briefly, it encompasses the following:
Keeping the database (this is on an Excel spreadsheet);
Banking members’ cheques;
Sending out membership information and renewal forms
If you think you might be able to help the group in this way, or would like more information, please get in touch with Jackie email@example.com 07989 272446
We are also looking for a new committee member to write the minutes of our meetings. We’d like to thank Garth for undertaking this role until recently. This job requires someone to attend our meetings (usually about four a year) which are held at individual’s houses mainly in the South Birmingham and Stratford area. It is always good to bring fresh ideas to the table, so even if you are new to the group but would like to contribute a little more, then do have a chat to any member of the committee out on a walk, or give them a ring (contacts at the back of this programme.) A contribution to travel expenses is given to any committee member living further away.
Car Sharing We’d like to remind everyone about the advantages of lift sharing. Not only is it cheaper and better for the environment, but it helps walk leaders looking for suitable car parking for our walks. If we each turn up in our own cars, we can potentially need a car park with 20 spaces, and this can be very tricky to find. So don’t forget our main meet point at St Godwald’s Road in Bromsgrove, check the programme for alternative ones subject to the walk area, or team up with others living near you. Why not set up a WhatsApp group? When sharing, don’t wait for the driver to ask for a contribution for petrol and car parking costs, and do make sure you bring some loose change with you to pay! We suggest 20p per mile split between you as a general guide.
See you out on a walk soon!
