Keeping in Touch - September

Hi there!

Single Boots 20th Anniversary Picnic Around 50 past and present members gathered to celebrate the success of our group at Lowsonford village hall. Helped by the sunny weather, a very jolly time was had, with plenty of delicious food, some outdoor games and a short local walk. Many thanks to all who came along and helped to make this such a lovely occasion. We’re looking for your feedback, so please email Dave P at with your thoughts, or catch one of the committee on our walks. For instance, might you be interested in an annual event? Is there anything you’d change? What did you like particularly? How did you like the venue?

Navigation days We are very fortunate to have some highly skilled members in Single Boots who are offering to share their expertise completely free! Do take advantage of these opportunities to improve your own skills and confidence and thereby helping you to offer more walks for the Single Boots programme.

Here are the dates:

26th October will be for beginners and basic skills led by Val

More details with this programme.

2nd November will be for more advanced skills including a chance to experience night navigation. This will be led by Dave P.

There’ll be more information coming from each leader, but do get in touch with them to book in or if you’d like to know more.

Something to think about At our next AGM (usually in April) our treasurer, Julia will be standing down. This is an Officer’s position and may be held for three years. If you have knowledge of accounts, or know how to use a fairly basic Excel spreadsheet, please consider whether you might be able to take on this role. Have a chat with Julia, or email her at Norman, our Chair, will also need to stand down, so we all need to think who might like to take the lead of our much loved group.

Informal weekends away (full members only)

The weekend still to come:

September 14th - 15th Barmouth moderate/strenuous walks

Leader: Alan 07972 197639

A weekend of hill walking around Barmouth. Please book in with Alan. Limited numbers & currently fully booked.

Trawsdir Campsite: ( ) B&Bs in and around Barmouth and Dolgellau. Early booking is recommended as the Barmouth Walking Festival is on and you are invited to stay on to join Alan in some of these walks too.

Walks diary Sometimes members ask us “How do you know the Christmas walk is on the 15th?” or “How did you know there’s a Brecon walk in ….?” The fact is, our diary is available online in our Members’ section. Check out and log in to the Members section, choosing the Walking Calendar option.

With that in mind, have a look and see when you’d like to put on your next walk!

We’re looking to fill the following dates:

October 20th & 27th; November 17th; December 29th

See you out on a walk soon!
