August Walks

July 27, 2019

Friday 2nd  August

Wilmcote Evening Walk, Warwickshire

Easy 5 miles

This evening walk starts in Wilmcote. It then takes in part of the Stratford canal. The route then crosses to the hamlet of Newnham and then on through the valley of the river Alne, to return to Wilmcote. At the end there are refreshments available at the Mary Arden pub.

Saturday 3rd August

Abberley Hills, Great Witley

Moderate 8 miles

A hilly and largely shaded walk around Great Witley, including the Abberley Hills to the north and Walsgrove and Woodbury Hills to the south.  Forest paths and beautiful Worcestershire views are to be had on this walk. Meet for refreshments at The Manor Arms, Abberley, after the walk.

Saturday 10th August

Clent Hills Evening Walk & Meal at Fountain Inn

Easy/Moderate 5 miles

An undulating walk with some hills and some fantastic views across Worcestershire, into Shropshire and Birmingham. All to build up an appetite for a meal at end

Sunday 11th August

Alcester

Easy 9 miles

A delightful walk through woods, over pasture and along tracks, passing tiny Warwickshire villages. On our return to historic Alcester there is a choice of café.

Sunday 18th August

Black Mountains

Strenuous 9 or 11½ miles

Right in the heart of the mountains and mainly on the ridge top, we should have stunning views in good weather although very exposed. Two steep climbs. Depending on the group and weather we can also take in Twmpa. Return route follows a charming valley and past the Grwyne Fawr Reservoir. Old Pandy Inn for refreshment at the end.

Sunday 25th August

Clun. Shropshire

Moderate 10½ miles

This walk starts in Clun and proceeds through the picturesque hills of Shropshire. The route eventually reaches the Offa’s Dyke path with great views and returns to Clun via the Jack Mytton Way.  There are toilets near the start and The White Horse in Clun can provide us with refreshments at the end of the walk.

These details are intended to give a flavour of upcoming walks organised by members of Single Boots and which are available to all members including temporary ones. There may be further walks or walking weekends this month which are only available to full members - please check the calendar in the Members' Area for details.
