Sunday 1st March
Easy 9½ miles
We start in nearby Danzey Green and walk through fields, quiet lanes and cross the railway before heading towards the chapel of Old St Mary near Ullenhall - where we stop for coffee. Following the Arden Way we walk up through Mockley Woods towards Tanworth-in-Arden where we have our lunch stop on the village green next to the parish church. A long tree-lined avenue leads us towards Umberslade Hall and we walk through more farmland to complete the walk.
Sunday 8th March
Easy 10½ miles
Very nice walk taking in National Trust properties of Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House, some canals and short road sections. I hope for a good show of daffodils.
Sunday 15th March
Aston Munslow, Shropshire
Easy 11½ miles
An alternative three castles walk in this little-known corner of south Shropshire. The walk is through the Corvedale mostly on gently-sloping farmland taking in the three castles of Broncroft, Corfham and Corfton. A lovely walk along the River Corve will bring us to the morning break and we will lunch on the earthworks of what remains of Corfham Castle, a mid-12th century motte and bailey. We will visit St Peter’s Church towards the end of the walk to marvel at the substantial Anglo-Saxon architecture.
Sunday 22nd March
Easy/Moderate 10 miles
Gradual ascents and descents of this magnificent hill which stands out adrift from the Cotswold escarpment. Superb views for most of the walk, and hillfort remains at the top of Bredon. We visit the peaceful villages of Overbury, Grafton & Ashton-under-Hill with their interesting architecture and gardens. Look out for kites and yellowhammers.
Sunday 29th March
Flounders Folly (from Craven Arms)
Moderate 9 miles
We will be making our way from Craven Arms along the river Onny and through undulating countryside to the slopes of Callow Hill and the tower Benjamin Flounders had built in 1838. Climbing the 78 stairs to the top, we can enjoy the wonderful views of the Malverns, the Black Mountains, Cader Idris and much more. There are great views on the way back too, crossing the southern parts of Wenlock Edge on our way back to the cars.
