Short week away at Dunster, Somerset - January 2026

About 15 of us have just enjoyed a lovely stay at the Yarn Market Hotel in Dunster; some returning for the second time. The hotel is at the top of a quaint high street with a view towards the Castle and only 5 minutes from the largest Rohan shop in England! It was nice to meet a few other members of Single Boots on arrival – familiar faces always put you at ease! The staff helped carry my case and guide me to my room along a maze of staircases and landings – it took me a while to find my way back!  

Andy gave us clear instructions about routes and meet times etc; never showing signs of despair even though we tested his patience!  He had planned 3 days of walks that were all a bit different seeing beautiful woodland, moorland and coast.

The weather was variable … to be expected in mid-January … so one misty, one sunny and one wet and windy sounds about right.

On our return on the last day when we ventured out, despite the yellow warning of wind and rain, we were greeted like lost friends by the hotel owner with the offer of complimentary hot soup and tea! So much nicer than a sandwich in our rooms! Just an indication of the warm atmosphere that we all enjoyed over the whole weekend.
