Our 20th anniversary picnic was a very relaxed and jolly affair. It took place at Lowsonford village hall, a lovely venue with a nice outdoor space by the canal. A couple of gazebos were erected outside to house a lovely feast. Everyone brought some food along to share. It’s amazing how that works out, we just didn’t get a whole table full of sausage rolls, instead, a varied spread of salads, quiches, dips, cakes and savoury snacks. All delicious!
The weather was kind to us and we had sunshine all afternoon. Around fifty members, and past and present, attended and were able to swap Single Boots memories and stories.
Traditional outdoor games were organised and many took part, and it was equally amusing to watch as it was to compete. We had an egg and spoon race (they were rubber eggs!) a sack race and a three-legged race.
A founder member shared the history of the group and paid tribute to everyone who has made the group so successful over the twenty years it has existed.
Later in the afternoon, 25 of us set off on a 4 1/2 mile walk in the area, heading up to the picturesque Preston Bagot church through woodlands and meadows and back to base via the canal path.
This was an event that showed Single Boots at its best and was proof of all that makes it such a successful club to be part of.
