January Walks

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

Sunday 5th January

Caer Caradoc & Lawley

Moderate 12 miles

Come join us on this pleasant outing onto the beautiful Shropshire hills to refresh body and mind after the Christmas break. On a clear day, there are great views across to Stiperstones and the Long Mynd. All this and the option to partake of some real ale at the Royal Oak pub with its wonderful welcoming open fires for an afternoon beer. Remember to bring torches as the last section may be at dusk or in the dark.

Sunday 12th January

Bromsgrove North

Easy 9 miles

We will start at the southern edge of town and then walk north through what can only be described as an urban landscape until we reach open countryside. During the walk we will cover a number of local topics including Tolkien, Housman, the 'Magnificent' M5/M42 intersection, The Archers, an exploding boiler, Buckingham Palace gates and The Liver Birds.

Sunday 19th January

Heart of England Forest, Spernal

Easy 10 miles

The first of a series of walks in this amazing young forest. “The Heart of England Forest is a charity committed to helping reverse centuries of woodland decline by planting a 30,000 acre joined-up forest of entirely native broadleaf trees. At 12% of their planting goal, they have already planted England’s largest new native forest”.

Explore at Members of this walking group have been helping to plant and nurture this forest and in this walk we will be able to admire their handiwork.

Sunday 26th January

Ledbury to Malvern Linear Walk

Moderate 12 miles

A beautiful, hilly and probably muddy, walk starting at Ledbury train station and returning to Great Malvern via Oyster Hill, Colwall and the Malvern Hills. The leader is a conservation volunteer with the Malvern Hills Trust and the walk will visit some of the sites where we they have been working recently, including Perseverance Hill, Park Wood and North Hill. Gaiters and walking poles recommended.
