Sunday 3rd September Upper/Lower Brailes Easy/Moderate 9½ miles
This delightful walk (which crosses the river Stour) begins in Upper Brailes. We pass through verdant pastures to reach Lower Brailes, then onwards to New Barn Farm, Whichford Mill and Whichford. An easy climb takes us through Long Compton Woods, descending to the pretty village of Cherington. We pass through Sutton-under-Brailes and climb the permissible part of Brailes Hill (the second highest point in Warwickshire at 232 metres), dropping down to our start point. Gentle undulating views should set you up for the week ahead. Refreshments at the sixteenth century George Inn, Lower Brailes.
Sunday 10th September Bosbury Moderate 11 miles
The walk starts in Bosbury and passes through a variety of open countryside with glorious views across Herefordshire. The gradient is varied with several climbs, and stiles to cross. The route uses a section of the Herefordshire trail and local footpaths, and there are several historic old halls and churches to see on the route including Castle Frome Church and Canon Frome Church, where we will stop for coffee and lunch.
Sunday 17th September Knightwick Easy/Moderate 10 miles
This is a delightful rural walk that holds your interest all the way round just by sheer variety of buildings and countryside views, including a Greek revival country house built on the back of vinegar. There are quite a lot of stiles which accounts for the ‘moderate’ as many are in desperate need of repair, but most of the walk is easy with one short, moderate hill climb at Lower Elmores End.
Sunday 24th September Upper Arley Easy 10 miles
Upper Arley village has a lovely location on the River Severn between Bridgnorth and Bewdley and a very nice circular walk is arranged for your enjoyment today with woodlands, meadows and superb Severn Valley views including the steam railway. Let’s hope for a nice sunny day!
