January Walks

Sunday 6th January

Caer Caradoc & Lawley

Moderate 12 miles

Come join us on this pleasant outing onto the beautiful Shropshire hills to refresh body and mind after the Christmas break. On a clear day, there are great views across to Stiperstones and the Long Mynd. All this and the option to partake of some real ale at the Royal Oak pub with its wonderful welcoming open fires for an afternoon beer.

Sunday 13th January

Hergest Ridge from Kington

Moderate 9 miles

This walk also forms part of the Kington weekend away and again members are welcome to join us. The walk takes a circular route along and around the ridge, offering splendid views of this picturesque area. Note, this walk should take approximately 5 hours including breaks. Please bring a torch in case of fading light. There are various pubs and tea rooms available offering refreshments in Kington after the walk.

Sunday 20th January

Fownhope, near Ross-on-Wye

Easy/Moderate 8 miles

A short pull gets us to Common Hill where we walk along tracks and through woodlands. A brief sharp uphill leads to a Roman Hill Fort hopefully with fantastic views. Brockhampton thatched church is a real gem so worth a look. We have just over ½ mile of lane walking before following the banks of the River Wye (detour option if too wet) back to the village where there is a lovely historic coaching inn, The Green Man, for a coffee or a pint in front of the log fire.

Sunday 27th January

Wootton Wawen

Easy 10 miles

Beat the January blues with this varied walk through the fields & woods of Warwickshire & some short stretches along the river Alne & canal. Visit the longest aqueduct in England, a hidden gem of industrial history! No toilets at start but a charming pub, The Bull’s Head, for a winter warmer drink/tea after the walk & option of visiting the Saxon Church or Yew Tree Craft Centre nearby.
