February Walks

David

Sunday 3rd February

Edge Hill

Moderate 11 miles

An undulating route in the pleasant rolling countryside of Oxfordshire with lovely views and picturesque Cotswold stone villages. We’ll be walking on the Macmillan Way, the d’Arcy Dalton Way and the Centenary Way, skirting the Upton House estate and finishing along the wooded ridge of Edge Hill, famous for being the site of the first battle of the civil war. The path along here is narrow in places and can be slippery, so you might like to bring poles with you for this stretch. There will also be mud, so gaiters are a good idea!

Sunday 10th February

Blakedown & Kinver

Easy/Moderate 11½ miles

A pleasantly undulating walk over to Kinver village, where we have lunch up at the church. Walk on tracks, pasture and canal towpath. On return to Blakedown there is the option to have coffee, time permitting. The free-draining sandy soil in the area will hopefully mean mud is kept to a minimum.

Sunday 17th February

Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire

Easy 9 miles

An easy walk through pleasant woodland and rolling countryside between Coalville and Loughborough. The walk encircles the Blackbrook Reservoir and passes by Mount Saint Bernard Abbey, an active monastery!

Sunday 24th February

Sibford Gower/Epwell/Shenington

Easy/Moderate 10 miles

Another walk through the rolling countryside of North Oxfordshire, west of Banbury, taking us along an ancient green lane, which still forms the boundary between Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, and over wide-open farmland, visiting 3 picturesque stone and thatch villages. We start and finish in the Quaker stronghold of the Sibfords, and en route visit Epwell, tucked away in a hollow not far behind the scarp face of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, and the elevated village of Shenington, over 500ft above sea level. Sections are likely to be muddy so gaiters and/or poles might be advisable. Plenty of stiles.
